After two months of idea-sharing and content development, I and a group of esteemed reporters and a phenomenal photographer published a series of social justice stories in May 2021 commemorating the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s police killing in Minneapolis. Our series of five stories looked at how the city of Chicago has changed since the summer of 2020’s civil unrest that followed Floyd’s murder. Our stories examined:
*’Disappointing’ Chicago police reform
*Top Chicago corporations’ promises kept to fight racism
*Community businesses hit during civil unrest, one year later
*Families who lost loved ones amid Chicago’s 2020
*Black & Brown unity: A complicated goal in Chicago
